According to data from the Affinity Foundation, in 2024 nearly 300,000 pets were abandoned in Spain, half of them dogs — mostly mixed breeds or hunting breeds such as podencos, galgos, or bodegueros.
This figure amounts to to 800 animals a day, or 33 every hour, and it only includes those that were successfully rescued.
